Billy Sims, Co-Founder and Co-Chairman
1978 Heisman Trophy Winner Billy Sims, is a successful entrepreneur and athlete whose career highlights include collegiate and professional records that remain standing today. Off the field Billy is a highly regarded business leader whose ventures include Billy Sims Barbecue, a chain of 55 casual-dining restaurants throughout the American Southwest, that he co-founded in 2004 along with a sports apparel company. Billy’s athletic career began in Hooks, Texas, where his high school football performance gained national prominence. Recruited by several major universities, Billy ultimately chose the University of Oklahoma., where in his junior year, he was awarded the prestigious Heisman Trophy. In1980 he became the first draft pick for the National Football League (NFL), going to the Detroit Lions, where he started his pro football career. As a star running back, he was named NFL Rookie of the Year and contributed to a winning 9-7 season for the Lions compared to a previous season win-loss record of 2-14. Following his retirement from professional football in 1985, Billy split his time between sports marketing enterprises, volunteering with non-profit organizations and managing Billy Sims Barbecue. In 2012, Billy teamed with several prominent Detroit area business leaders to found ACCR, L.L.C., a private investment firm spearheading a number of initiatives including Billy Sims-China Food Group, a Michigan-based food hub developing and manufacturing dairy and other products for the China market.
David “Chief” Tomby, Founder, Co-Chairman & Corporate Director of Marketing
David Chief Tomby is a Native American who has been an independent marketing consultant for some 30 years. A prominent businessman in Michigan and Nevada, Chief founded several profitable companies including a water purification company and, Xanadu Limited, a real estate investment and management entity. Working with Steve Wynn, Chief has been active in promoting Native American Casino ownership throughout the US. After graduating from the University of Detroit with a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing, Chief became an advisor to Mohammed Ali, the American boxing legend known for his lightening fast footwork and quick wit. While working with Ali, he formed a group to develop an all-natural line of soft drinks branded Champ Pop, which he subsequently sold. Chief is a entrepreneurial visionary who developed the basic concept for The Billy Sims-China Food Group as a US-China joint venture food hub that will meet China’s growing need for products that meet the highest standards for safety, quality and consistency and, in addition, will bring new employment and revitalization to the Detroit area.
David S. Coleman, President and Chief Executive Officer
David is a second-generation entrepreneur with deep roots in Detroit, Michigan and several years of professional experience in events management, clothing design and manufacturing, the spirits industry, and real estate investment and management. Earlier in his career, David founded and managed a New Orleans, Louisiana events management and advertising specialty products company. Housed in a 2,400 square meter facility, the company provided merchandising, graphic design, and screen printing for customers such as the City of New Orleans, Bally’s Casino, Harrah’s Casino, Amtrak Railways, NFL Super Bowl XXXI, and USA track & field teams. More recently he became merchandising manager for Motown recording artist KEM, who was nominated for three Grammys. After seven profitable years of operation, David relocated to Atlanta, Georgia where he was recruited into the spirits business by a successful beverage distributor and later developed his own brand of XO brandy with a patent pending. In addition, David is a licensed real estate agent in the states of Georgia and Michigan where he actively invests in and manages commercial and residential property. David received his Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1994.
Dominic Fairley, Chief Operating Officer Real Estate
As Chief Operating Officer, Dominic draws from his experience as the founder and principal associate broker of Boardwalk Realty Group LLC, a full service real estate firm. Dominic has some two decades of experience in the real estate and mortgage banking industry, specializing in the default servicing and commercial income property sectors. He enjoys the challenge of bridging the gap of investor’s goals and accomplishments by utilizing his wealth of market knowledge, practical experience and many relationships to deliver results. More recently, Dominic has expanded his reach globally by focusing on emerging markets to include China and the Dominican Republic where he is focusing on developing a base of growing international real estate holdings and import-export services.
Kevin Zhang, Director, China Operations
A native of China, Kevin has over 25 years of experience working with China where he developed extensive contacts in various industries, retail, manufacturing, the universities, agriculture, commercial real estate and the legal profession. As the founder of Strategic Resource Consultants Limited, in Massachusetts, USA, Kevin has been advising companies on their marketing and investment strategies in China and helping them build networks and establish operations. This has included developing products for the China market, sourcing manufacturing for US companies; advising US corporations on marketing and branding in China, and helping US professional service companies establish joint-venture partnerships with their counterparts in China. Prior to his participation in Billy Sims-China Food Group, Kevin has advised and worked both directly and indirectly with notable US, European and Chinese companies, such as Yankee Candle Company, Coca Cola, TJX Corporation, Kosta Boda, and Hongwei Glass International Company, to name a few. Earlier, Kevin was Executive Vice President for Global Sourcing at Syratech Corporation one of the largest US manufacturers and marketers of consumer products supplying, Macy’s Department Stores, K-Mart, Walmart, TJ Max and other major retail chains. During his years with Syratech, Kevin built a global sourcing network in Europe and Asia, managed over 300 staff worldwide sourcing from 360 manufacturers and was responsible for a $100 million purchasing budget. Prior to Syratech, Kevin was Director of International Marketing at Cassidy and Associates, one of the largest Government Relations companies in Washington DC. He helped to develop and managed international clients such as Fudan Foundation, American Hospital in Shanghai Foundation and Ministry of Forestry of Indonesia. His work led to establishment of American Study Center at Fudan University in Shanghai and an American Clinic in Shanghai’s People’s Hospital. He also successfully worked on legislative initiatives in the areas of immigration and the environment. Kevin was awarded his Bachelor of Science degree, Magna Cum Laude, in computer sciences and a Master of Science degree in mathematics from Tufts University He is a member of the Advisory Board at the International Leadership Institute at Tufts University.
Joy Wells, Director, Supplier Relations
Joy is a results-oriented executive who, while serving as business development director with Logan Enterprises, generated new accounts and increased revenue by cultivating relationships with key players in various industries; thus creating a mutually beneficial referral system for the company. This eventually led to the creation of Axis Solutions, a consulting firm assisting small businesses enter the government marketplace. Additionally, Joy actively marketed and developed key accounts by favorably representing multiple companies at membership and community functions implementing strategic teaming efforts. Earlier in her career, Joy held management positions with Primetime Testing Laboratory and Leo J. Furnari & Sons, Inc. Joy is a product of Macomb Community College in Clinton, Michigan and has earned a Level II Certified Professional Defense Acquisition credential from Defense Acquisition University in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. She is active in the National Defense Industry Association (NDIA) and Women in Defense (WID).
Juana Woodson, Director, Product & Customer Services
As president of Xanadu Limited Casino and Real-Estate Development, Inc. Juana is a veteran real-estate investment and property management veteran. As president of Xanadu, she was the lead developer of Campeau Farms, a 180- condominium development in downtown Detroit and past designated casino developer for the city of Highland Park, Michigan. As vice president and treasurer of Marwood Real-Estate Development Corp., Juana was involved in the condemnation and land assembly of many of the major projects in Detroit for the past 30 years, including, but not limited to Ford Field, Comerica Park, Mack Plants 1&2 and the Charles H. Wright Museum. With an eye for detail and a proven track record in advertising, marketing, public relations and international business, Juana was a founding member of an influential power women’s organization: The (RWG)/ Renaissance Women’s Group. Juana graduated from Wayne State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, and pursued a Master of Business Administration from Michigan State University.
Bryan Shishakly, Director of Development
Bryan Shishakly is the owner and creative director of Vanguard Design Group, a Metro Detroit design firm specializing in retail and commercial design and project visualization. During his professional career, Bryan worked as a retail architectural designer for a major automotive manufacturer, completing over 100 dealership projects before leaving to found Vanguard Design Group. The firm quickly gained a reputation for having dedicated flexible and targeted design teams that are able to provide professional design and visualization services for smaller franchises and businesses as well as larger companies. During its first full year of business, Vanguard served 17 clients on more than 20 unique projects including the design and rollout of a e-cigarette retail franchise operation. Bryan is a graduate of The University of Detroit Mercy’s School of Architecture, where he earned both his Bachelor of Science degree in architecture and Master of Architecture degree. During his undergraduate and graduate career Bryan also studied photography at Columbia College, Chicago and Urban Planning at Wayne State University.
Dick Pirozzolo, Public Relations Manager
Dick is a leading, Boston-based public relations professional, whose clients have included the government of Vietnam, Japan’s Ministry of Forestry and Fisheries, Canada’s Eastern Provinces and corporations headquartered in Indonesia, Israel, the United Kingdom and China. Dick’s client engagements have included major US Corporations such as Citibank, Wilmington Trust, United Technologies, Westinghouse and Mass Mutual, and successful startup companies to include UBS/Agrivest and Wright Express Corporation (WEX-NYSE). On behalf of the Vietnam Government, Dick figured prominently in fostering reconciliation and trade with Vietnam, building support for US Senate approval of Vietnam as a Most Favored Nation trading partner and launching several trade initiatives—chief among them was VietnAmerica Expo – Hanoi’s official welcoming of US business. Additionally, he arranged successful trade deals with Vietnam on behalf of The State of Hawaii, Smith & Wesson, and J/Brice Design International, Inc. a Boston and Dammam, KSA-based hospitality design and development firm. His recent work includes fostering carbon-offset trading on behalf of Trayport (GFIG/NYSE) and Foreign Exchange (forex) trading in Asia for FCM360, Inc. Dick is on the Advisory Board of the Association of Southeast Asia CEOs (SEACEO), a member of the Public Relations Committee of the New England-Canada Business Council and the Editorial Board of Boston Global Forum, a Boston think tank. He has been an accredited member of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) since 1978 and holds membership in The National Press Club, Washington, DC, the Society of Professional Journalists (formerly Sigma Delta Chi honorary society) and The Foreign Press Association, headquartered in New York.
